Lamella growth at the interface of spherulites observed by AFM in real time

AbstractPoly(bisphenol A-co-decane) could form spherulites in a wide-range of temperatures. The growth of lamellae at the interface of spherulites was studied in real time using atomic force microscopy (AFM) with a high temperature heater accessory. The results indicated that the lamellae from different spherulites could penetrate each other and form "lamella bridges" when the growth directions of lamellae were nearly parallel. The lamellae in different directions could join and stop growing by each other at the interface of spherulites, which lead to the formation of defects.
