AbstractHydrogen-bonding layer-by-layer self-assembly has been successfully extended from two-to three-dimensional systems, i.e., to layers on spherical particles. Hollow capsules (see Figure) were prepared by subsequent removal of the sacrificial core. The core-shell particles and hollow capsules should find applications in medicine and biology.
