AbstractThree new two-dimensional nonlinear optical azo-carbazole chromophores containing triphenylamine arc synthesized by Knoevenagel condensation of triphenylamine-dialdehyde with cyanoacetylated carbazole chromophores. Their structures have been verified through the characterization of H-1-NMR. IR. UV-Vis spectra, FAB-MS and elemental analysis. Their beta values measured by HRS in chloroform using the fundamental excitation wavelength of 1064 11111 arc estimated to be as high as 1063 x 10(-30). 1415 x 10(-30) and 1143 x 10(-30) csu, respectively, and their NLO coefficient d(33) of these films without any supporting matrix measured by in-situ SHG arc 20.8, 12.4 and 14.9 pm/V, respectively.
