Abstract2,6-Disubstitute cycloheptimidazole, which possess a low dipole moment in the around state (mu(g)) and large first hyperpolarizability (beta). have been designed. These compounds have the reversion of the excited state dipole moment and can be optimized by the donor-acceptor substitution. Of these chromophores studied, 2-dimethylamino-6-nitrocycloheptimidazole (DNCH) was selected for synthesis for synthesis and investigations. The experimental values mug and beta are 5.11D and 34.6 x 10(-30) esu, respectively. They are good agreement with theoretical results. The second order NLO coefficient (d(33)) of DANCH-doped polymer film is 12.9 pm/V.
