AbstractHeI photoelectron spectroscopy of some benzothiazole derivatives has been studied for the first time. To assign these spectra, RHF/3-21G optimization and RHF/6-31G molecular orbital calculation for the five compounds have also been performed. The results show that the ionization potentials (IPs) of the molecules are affected by the property of the substituents, the stronger the electron-donating ability of the substituents and the conjugative effect of the systems, the lower the ionization potentials. The effect of substituent on 6-position is stronger than that on 2-position.
