AbstractThe dye pollutant sulforhodamine B can be degraded in aqueous TiO2 dispersions under visible light irradiation (lambda > 420 nm). UV-Vis spectroscopy, TOC, ion chromatography, ESR spin trap techniques were employed to investigate the photooxidation process. Peroxides were detected as one of main intermediates produced, which was unstable and decomposed with further irradiation. The experimental results indicate that the conjugated chromophore structure of SRB was destroyed under visible irradiation to form small organic species and mineralized products (CO2 and SO42-).
