AbstractThe basic concept and the structural characters of bolaamphiphiles are described. The unique structures and properties of the monolayers at the air/water interface and vesicles in solutions formed by the bolaamphiphiles are outlined. The applications of the bolaamphiphiles in catalysis, biomineralization, slow delivery of drug, membrane disruption and nanomaterials are discussed. The potential development of the research on bolaamphiphiles is prospected.
