Nanocomposite system of N-methylstilbazoliums intercalated into lamellar FePS3

AbstractA new series of inorganic-organic hybrid materials, 2 ' -R-1-4 ' -R-2-N-methylstilbazoliums (a, R-1 = R-2 = MeO; b, R-1 = R-2 = Cl; c, R-1 = R-2 = H: d, R-1 = H, R-2 = MeO; e, R-1 = H, R-2 = Cl) intercalated into lamellar FePS3, were synthesized through ion-exchange process. Compared with FePS3(d = 6.42 Angstrom), the lattice spacing expansion (Deltad) of 14.6 Angstrom for Intercalate a, 13.2 Angstrom for Intercalate b and 5.7 similar to 6.0 Angstrom for Intercalate c, d and e indicated that the molecular ring planes of the guests are perpendicular to the layers of the host. Among them the lattice spacing of 21.02 Angstrom for Intercalate a is the largest for all FePS3 intercalates reported. Their magnetic properties were studied, all of which exhibited the similar antiferromagnetic properties with Neel temperature at around 80 K. It seems that the lattice spacing expansion and the electron-effect of substitution group of the guest have little influence on the magnetic properties for these intercalates.
