AbstractPolypyrrole (PPy) with room temperature conductivity (similar to 10 degrees S/cm) was synthesized by in situ doping polymerization in the presence of 1,5-naphthalenedisulfonic acid (1,5-NDSA) as a dopant. To our surprise, the resulting polymer had a good crystallinity. In order to understand why PPy doped with 1,5-NDSA had such unusual crystallinity, we characterized molecular structure of the polymer, and carried out experiments like dedoping and redoping.
