AbstractAn improved method for synthesis of bis(spirodienone) derivative of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene has been developed by mildly oxidizing the latter with I(2) and PEG 200 as a phase-transfer catalyst; the resulting compound containing two cyclohexadienone rings at distal positions (1, 3) is formed in quantitative yield.
