Synthesis and characterization of silicone rubber montmorillonite composites

AbstractSilicone rubber/montmorillonite hybrids were synthesized by means of solution and melt mixing. The mechanical properties, thermal stability and solvent resistance of the hybrids were compared with that of silicone rubber filled by aerosilica. The results proved that montmorillonite could be dispersed in the silicone rubber matrix more uniformly by solution than by melt mixing. The resulting hybrid had properties close to that of aerosilica filled silicone composite.
