AbstractAn extraction-free spectrophotometric method for the determination of cationic surfactants is proposed, which is based on the formation of ternary complexes with Fe(III) and chrome azurol S. The method gives an apparent molar absorptivity of 6.5 x 10(4) L mol(-1) cm(-1) and a linear range of (0.1-60) x 10(-6) mol/L cationic surfactants, and has been successfully applied to determining cationic surfactants in water.
