AbstractA new method for the synthesis of phenanthrenes via ligand-free CuBr2-catalyzed coupling/cyclization of terminal alkynes with N-tosylhydrazones derived from o-formyl biphenyls has been developed. This new synthesis has wide range of functional group compatibility.
