Abstract | A H(2)Pc-Pt/C nanocomposite catalyst was prepared and characterized by TEM, XRD and ICP. In an O(2)-saturated H(2)SO(4) solution containing methanol (0.5 mol/L), the onset potential over the H(2)Pc-Pt/C-Nafion (R) electrode shifted by more than 200 mV toward positive relative to that over an electrode prepared with a commercial Pt/C-JM catalyst and Nafion (R) (Pt/C-JM-Nafion (R)), and the specific current density at 0.85 V of the H(2)Pc-Pt/C-Nafion (R) electrode for oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) is about 7 times larger than that of the Pt/C-JM-Nafion (R) electrode. Different from FePc, H(2)Pc does not form ethanol soluble complex with Nafion (R). The excellent methanol tolerance of H(2)Pc-Pt/C-Nafion (R) is mainly derived from the presence of high active and selective catalytic sites for ORR in the catalytic electrode. |
