Influence of Silver Halide Additives on the Sorption of Iodine-125 on Beishan Granite Powder

AbstractThe influence of silver halide additives (AgCl, AgBr, AgI) on the sorption of (125)I on Beishan Granite powder was studied by column and batch sorption methods. The results indicate that silver halide additives could enhance the sorption of (125)I on Beishan Granite powder with effective distribution coefficients (K(d,e)) greater than 1.0x10(3) mL.g(-1). When isotopic carrier of (125)I is added, silver chloride and silver bromide still enhance the sorption of (125)I on Beishan Granite with K(d,e) values greater than 1.0x10(3) mL.g(-1). Among the three, silver bromide has the highest power in enhancing the sorption (125)I on the granite powder, which may due to its crystal structure and photolysis ability.
