AbstractSimple chiral primary - tertiary diamine - Bronsted acid conjugates such as 1e can effectively catalyze the direct aldol reactions of pyruvic derivatives with excellent syn diastereoselectivities and enantioselectivities, thus functionally mimicking the pyruvate-dependent type I aldolases.
