AbstractControlling self-assembled adlayer on solid surface is a challenge in molecular science. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) is a powerful technique in the study of self-assembled structures. This paper summarizes recent STM study in tuning the structure of self-assembled adlayer by exert external stimuli such as solvent, heating, light irradiation, and electric field/electrode potential. The results will be significant in surface nanoscience and nanotechnology.
